The National Gallery of Art serves the nation by welcoming all people to explore and experience art, creativity, and our shared humanity.
Is art for pleasure or politics?
Should art always have deep meaning? Or should it exist simply for beauty’s sake?
This has been a long-standing debate in the art world. Some argue that art without meaning ignores the realities of life, while others believe that beauty alone is enough to move us, to make us feel something.
In Washington, DC, several Black artists explored this dilemma even further, pushing people to think deeper about what art can be.

World’s Hardest Art - Stone Sculpting. Feel pity for some smalltime art influencers mixing random colours and calling it art.
It took tremendous amounts of patience to finish sculpting the marble. Bravo 👏
Beauty!
So wonderful to see! If we didn’t have to deal with the setbacks of racism, we would be further. There were many economic, housing and educational limitations. And ALL of our successful town & communities we built after slavery were destroyed. And no institutions that would help us rebuild or recover our losses through the courts. In spite of, 70% of us improved our lives! Great to see our beautiful history!!❤

I think art specifically aimed at changing the world or changing people's opinions is likely to be of limited effect in that goal. Art that changes the world does so because of something innate that touches people's souls, leading to self-examination and ultimately to political change. To me it's the difference between being told and being invited or shown.
Why are there only two options?

I adore her!!!!!

It was a beautiful and historical event that brought so many artists in the area who spanned decades of Black excellence. It was just a taste of those who lived and created in Chocolate City. Thank you Rashieda Witter and your phenomenal team for making this happen. Thank you NGA for supporting it.
Rashieda Witter, thank you for this wonderful and informative video. Congratulations for capturing this 2024 moment.
Pls what can I apply on my sculpture in other for it to not melt down when it comes in contact with rain?
Liz's work is spectacular!
Clay! You're inspiring. I'd like to try to work with clay.
I watched this guy carve a piece in Milan 25 years ago and it just blew everyone’s mind away. That piece sold for $70,000 and that was 25 years ago. Imagine what that is worth today. His pieces sell for crazy money. There is another statue maker in Milan that sells his statues for $200,000 a piece. Maybe much more today. It takes them a month to two months to make one statue.
